As we move through winter, we want to begin with a moment of pause and gratitude.
This season has been about rest, restoration, and tending to our roots — for our team, our community, and the many families who rely on Garden of Peace as a place of care and continuity. Winter asks us to slow down, to reflect on what we’ve survived, and to gather the strength needed for what’s ahead.
Because of your continued support, we were able to do just that — and continue showing up in meaningful ways.
Recent Program Wins
Over the past few months, your generosity has helped us provide direct support and stability during a particularly challenging season. Through our programs and emergency funds, we were able to assist families and individuals with:
-
Food, utilities, and basic necessities
-
Transportation, medical needs, and documentation
-
Community-based care for Black trans and queer individuals and families
Each act of support represents more than a transaction — it represents safety, dignity, and relief during moments of uncertainty.
A Note on Infrastructure & Care
Behind the scenes, we’ve also been tending to our internal systems. This winter, we’ve focused on strengthening our infrastructure so we can better steward your trust, communicate more clearly, and remain sustainable for the long haul.
This includes updates to our communication tools, donation platforms, and internal processes — all with the goal of ensuring that support moves efficiently, transparently, and with care to those who need it most.
Thank you for your patience and grace as we continue building systems that match the values of our work.
Upcoming Gathering: Sacred Ink
Sacred Ink is a reflective writing and creative space honoring Black love as resistance, held in celebration of Toni Morrison’s legacy and birthday.
This gathering invites participants into a gentle, intentional space for reflection, storytelling, and creative expression. Through guided prompts and shared presence, Sacred Ink centers Black love — not as abstraction, but as lived practice, memory, survival, and devotion.
This space is for those longing to slow down, to write from the heart, and to reconnect with language as a source of grounding and liberation.

Upcoming Gathering: Brotherhood & Becoming
Brotherhood & Becoming is a virtual gathering created specifically for Black trans men and masculine-of-center folx, rooted in connection, reflection, and collective care.
This gathering is about more than conversation — it’s about creating a space where Black trans masculine people can show up fully, speak honestly, and be witnessed without explanation or defense. Together, we’ll explore themes of identity, growth, resilience, and what it means to build brotherhood in a world that often denies us space.
We’re honored to welcome Kits Blanc as our keynote speaker, whose presence and insight will help ground the gathering in authenticity, depth, and shared experience.
This is a space to be seen, affirmed, and connected.

With Gratitude — and an Invitation
Everything we’ve shared here is possible because of you.
As we begin the year, we invite you — if you’re able — to continue supporting Garden of Peace through a one-time or recurring donation. Early-year contributions help us plan, respond quickly to urgent needs, and sustain care during seasons when resources are often stretched thin.

Thank you for believing in this work, for walking alongside us, and for helping cultivate spaces of safety, belonging, and peace.
With deep gratitude, Michael David Battle, MPA Global Executive Director Garden of Peace, Inc.
P.S. If Garden of Peace has ever offered you a moment of grounding, care, or connection, we invite you to give what you can today. Early-year donations make a meaningful difference and allow us to continue showing up — steadily, lovingly, and in response to real needs. Your support truly matters.
